TEACHER STRATEGIES TO OVERCOME SPEAKING ANXIETY OF THE SEVENTH GRADE AT JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL MA’ARIF NU 1 PURWOKERTO



This research to explore teacher strategies to overcome speaking anxiety among seventh-grade students learning English as a foreign language at SMP Ma’arif NU 01 Purwokerto, Indonesia. It identifies the challenges faced by these students, because their lack of prior English language instruction in elementary school, leading to feelings of fear and shyness during speaking evaluations. Used a qualitative research paradigm, this study utilizes classroom observations, interviews both teachers and students and documentation to gather comprehensive data. The findings reveal that teachers employed several methods, including discussion activities, prepared talks and vocabularies, communication games, alongside motivational techniques and paired group activities uses to foster a more supportive learning environment. As a result, the students reacted positively to the strategies implemented by the teacher during speaking lessons. Students felt more confident, more interesting students can improve their ability to express ideas on learning and can improving students English speaking skills.
