Abstract: This research investigated the effectiveness of authentic materials on
students' perceptive reading in 8th grade of SMP N 1 Kemranjen, Banyumas. The
study employed a quasi-experimental method involving two classes: the
experimental class (VIII-G) consists of 34 students and the control class (VIII-E)
consists of 36 students. Data were collected through pre-tests and post-tests,
which assessed students' perceptive reading. The results were analyzed using
IBM SPSS 26. The Mann-Whitney U-Test showed a significant difference
between the experimental class and the control class (Sig 2-tailed 0.027 < 0.05).
This findings demonstrated that there is a significant effect on students'
perceptive reading at eighth-grade of SMP N 1 Kemranjen, Banyumas after using
authentic materials. In addition to the statistical results, this study found that
authentic materials positively influenced student engagement and attitudes toward
learning during treatment. These findings suggest that authentic materials proved
to be an effective tool to enhance perceptive reading and foster a more effective
learning environment.
