STUDENTS' PERCEPTION ON ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM FOR SPEAKING SKILL IN MATIQ ISTIQOMAH SAMBAS ISLAMIC BOARDING SCHOOL PURBALINGGA



Abstract: This study investigates students' perceptions of the English language
program for speaking skills at MATIQ Istiqomah Sambas Islamic Boarding School,
Purbalingga. Employing a mixed-method approach, the study included both
quantitative and qualitative phases. Data were collected from 110 respondents
through questionnaires and follow-up interviews with six students selected from the
questionnaire. The research focuses on six key indicators to evaluate students'
experiences and perspectives on the program's effectiveness in enhancing their
speaking skills. The findings reveal that most students perceive the program
positively, considering it beneficial for improving their English-speaking abilities,
with 77.4% of respondents indicating a favorable perception, if classified, is
included in the high category. This is supported by the interview results, in which
students expressed that the program has been beneficial. However, some students
still face challenges in engaging with the program. The study concludes that while
the program plays a crucial role in developing students' speaking proficiency,
and opportunities, learning methods, practice in interactive further improvements
